This book has some information about "Color management for predictable results and reduced headaches" and "Preparing your images for print and getting top-quality results". Much cheaper, too!

That's beautiful work you're doing! As far as a color management workflow, that's a whole world unto itself and I don't pretend to be anything near expert at it. However, others are and have made their expertise available. You might want to check into the Beaux Arts Printing Mastery DVD Workshop (as...

Filter Forge has been officially released! See some examples I created with it here, using a MacBook and Parallels to run Windows. Works fine!

Maybe create a Photoshop shape and use blending modes, transparency and distortion to create a similar effect.

Digital Film Tools offers something similar in Light! for less than a third of the price of Mystical Lighting.

My first thought is to work with two duplicate layers. Keep the bottom one in the original color, then treat the top one with B/W Styler. Erase the area of the top layer where you want color from the bottom layer to show through, using a brush with appropriate hardness or softness for the subject ma...

You might look into Alien Skin's Splat! as well as those plug-ins/actions listed under Edges/borders/frames here.

Alien Skin Snap Art resource

I just came across this great blog dedicated to Alien Skin's new Snap Art plug-in. There's also a downloadable PDF catalog showing the various filter effects. Well done site!

Portraiture offers quite a bit more adjustments than GEM. See the difference via screenshots here and here.

In PS3's preferences for plug-ins, locate your existing CS2 plug-ins folder. No need to move or copy them.

I just checked on the Mac and it's working. I referenced my existing PS CS2 plug-ins folder from within CS3 rather than specially reinstalling a bunch of plug-ins into CS3's Plug-ins folder, FWIW.

Hi, this sort of work can be done in Photoshop alone, assuming one has the time and skill. Otherwise, third-party plug-ins are available to make the job faster and easier, with better overall results. See the links under "Portrait enhancement" on this page . The new Imagenomic Portraiture is becomin...

Here you go, take your pick! For Glow, look under "Glow" as well as "Diffusion". Not sure what you mean by "shine"--lighting effects, maybe? Then you'll want Harald's Light Machine.

I think I may have solved the mystery! I went trolling around in the PGE subfolders, and noticed that under Plug-Ins>Adobe Photoshop Only>PGE>Dreamsuite>Effect Presets, every preset folder was empty EXCEPT Layers! So I went back to the PGE interface, and instead of accessing the presets from the Pho...

Sounds like a good example of a software bug!

I'm hoping Auto FX will work on some updates soon. From my recent correspondence with them I know they're aware their software is not compatible with Photoshop CS3, so perhaps it is time for some recoding.

Well, some presets appear and others don't. I don't know what can be done to fix it. Auto FX software is several years old now, but thankfully they still work overall! They are nice apps that would do well to be updated and made more efficient. Tip: Run Auto FX apps as standalones rather than as plu...
