True. So let's open one of those challenges where The Plugin Site members download the original and apply different techniques to it to achieve a tonally balanced result. It should be interesting to see the different workflows.

Hi Harald,

That "look" is part of Lucis Art's charm, and is usually applied for artistic reasons ;-). Of course I could have backed it off by blending back the original (or even using the Exposure option instead of Sculpture).

HDR fix: Lucis Art+Shadow/Highlight

I've got a nasty example online (link below) of an extreme lighting situation: Lunchtime at the famous Farmer's Market in LA (where James Dean ate his last breakfast...). Shot with no fill flash on auto-exposure, the original is either too dark or too light with little middle ground. I knew Lucis Ar...

Kubota Sloppy borders are among the best I've seen, having been created manually in the darkroom and digitzed. I used them throughout my last ezine (issue #6). They can be applied as Actions or manually, using apps such as EasyFrame . Also see the list of other options under "Edges/borders/frames" ...

Paint Shop Pro Photo XI--my impressions

I just received and have played with PSP Photo XI, running it on a MacBook under Windows via Boot Camp. It ran great and processed images quickly. I was surprised to see it could load a new folder of plug-ins without needing to be relaunched. I never tried PSP before, except for a quick look at a tr...

OK, I've been enjoying using the new PSP in Windows on my MacBook! I converted an image to 16-bit, and tried to apply B/W Styler. It was grayed out, as was another developer's plug-in which I have installed as well. So I guess that gives us our answer.

Ah, I see what you're asking. I will spend more time with it soon and see.

In the short time I did play with it, I did have to downgrade a 16-bit image to apply PSP's native filters to it. So maybe that's an indication.

Harald has a point when he says the preference runs along platform lines. But for some time now PS has been cross-platform, while PSP hasn't. And Jaci is correct about PS's use in industry (and the lesser perception of PSP). Perception is a powerful thing, and can cripple otherwise wonderful softwar...

See examples of Retoucher here . Akvis also makes Stamp . Alien Skin's Image Doctor works in a similar manner. Polaroid made a free Dust & Scratch Removal plug-in (at least for Mac). I don't have samples posted yet, but it was great for removing black or white dust. It's no longer offered, but someo...

I checked with a utility called "Mactracker" and the clamshell iBook does indeed max out at 800x600 ("optimum"). It's only got 4 megs of graphics memory and can't go above 576 RAM. Susanne, are you in any position to upgrade your machine (via ebay, etc.)? That iBook was great in its time but as you ...

The vast majority of plug-ins listed on my website (URL below) work in CS2, either with Mac or Windows. I can only think of one at the monent (Hot Text) that hasn't been updated.

BTW, as much as I like Flaming Pear plug-ins, I don't have them listed on my Plugs 'N Pixels website yet because the developer hasn't returned my multiple emails, and that's not cool ;-).

Those are nice! I'm still thinking you should apply the filter on the largest image it can handle, then upscale the result. Check out Alien Skin's new Blow Up as an interpolation option.

So, how have sales been in your experience?
