Adobe Master Collection installation grief: Fix coming

I work in higher ed IT and got bitten hard by the “Installation failed” bug while trying to install the CC 2017 Master Collection in a lab setting earlier this week.

Oddly, the very same installer (enterprise build) worked the week before. A fresh and updated rebuild did not help.

At any rate, we corresponded with Adobe and they have been deluged with complaints. They identified 2 of the apps that were causing the issue (Scout and one other odd thing I don’t recall ever hearing about before).

A fix is expected Monday (2/27).

This issue came and went (turns out there were 2 expired certificates in the installers).

CC 2018 gave me no trouble.

However, now Adobe is updating its application licensing technology "to better support the increased integration of cloud services and desktop applications." Should be another fun adventure!

"All new versions of Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Document Cloud (Acrobat), eLearning (Adobe Captivate, Adobe Presenter) and Technical Communication products (Adobe Framemaker, Adobe Robohelp), as well as Adobe ColdFusion released as part of this update, will no longer be activated using serial numbers.

We plan to release Adobe products, applications, and services using the updated licensing technology starting in late 2018. The rollout is planned as follows:
• Creative Cloud for enterprise: late 2018
• Acrobat and Document Cloud for enterprise: late 2018
• eLearning and Technical Communication products: early 2019
• ColdFusion: early 2020"
