How do you remove all color except black?

I would like to remove all color from scanned drawings except black.
I need to do this in some manner that it is as automatic as possible.
I will be doing hundreds of these for my son.

Do you intend to preserve grays?

No greys just the black out lines of the originals.
An example would be one of the stationary Emoticons with out any yellow.

Don, please transmit me your private e-mail address to send you a very simple filter written and compiled with FilterMeister. It transforms all darks above a threshold into 100% black, and the rest into plain white. The adjustable threshold is necessary for the begining because I cannot guess the quality of your originals and of your scanner.
