I have been tring to figure out how to make a photograph into a fantasy painting for a year now. I DONT GET IT! Can someone PLEASE help me. PLEASE< PLEASE< PLEASE!

There are some plugins that let you turn photos into paintings, e.g. Buzz Pro or Paint Engine. But if you want some more creative effects, I would suggest to use Corel Painter. It offers a lot of natural brushes with which you can paint over the photo.

Hi Marc. Transforming a photo into a painting depends a lot on the starting photo. But there are plugins that try to do this. Harry mentioned two of them, and there is also Virtual Painter. And a standalone application called PhotoArtMaster.

Aside from this, there are less automated techiques for turning photos into a natural media look, and they usually work better. Perhaps the best places to learn are the photoart areas at:

Can you be more specific about what type of photo you're working with, and what fantasy effects you're aiming for? Can you post another message advising exactly what you are seeking?

If you are looking for a gradient background, both Photoshop and Ultimate FX have gradient color plugins. Also, Photoshop has a terrific plugin called "Plastic Wrap (Filters/Artistic/Plastic Wrap) which will impose a nice, iridescent sheen to an image. If you try this one, set "Highlight Strength" at 6 or less, "Detail" at 8 or less and "Smoothness" at 12 or more. Any lower and the effect may be too anemic for your purposes. You can go higher than these settings if you want to and like the effect.

I can only assume you desire to create images like on the covers of Fantasy books, or images in Heavy Metal magazine or "Dreamy" portrait photography.

I am looking to create similer image smoothing like in the link below:

I am not looking to duplicate his manip style; rather create my own using the same concepts or plugs.

I am not tring to copy his style, rather create something for myself. But I love the way it was transposed into a painting rather flawlessly.
