Gamma adjustment

Adobe photoshop does not have an adjustment for gamma. If I want to make a gamma adjustment I must switch over to Image ready.
I find a gamma adjustment much more suitable for brightening up dark photos over the brightness and contrast adjustments in photoshop.
I use to have a copy of Filters unlimited 1.0 that allowed me to adjust gamma but since I've reformatted I can only find demo copies that will not allow toy save the results.

So here is my question. Does anyone have any suggestions or alternatives to what I am currently doing? Are there any plugins available?

You can adjust gamma in Photoshop. Open the Levels dialog and drag the middle triangle to adjust the gamma. You can also enter a gamma value in the middle textbox above the histogram.
