Missing Plugin Support in Corel Painter 12

Post by HaraldHeim »

It seems that the 64-bit version of Corel Painter 12 does not support Photoshop plugins. However, you can create a Plugins sub folder in the Support Files folder of the 32-bit Windows version Painter 12 and place 32-bit plugins there. The plugin then show up in the Effects menu under "Other" in Painter 12 32-bit.

The problem is that if you are running 64-bit Windows, the installer does not seem to allow you to install the 32-bit version of Painter 12. So that basically means no plugin usage in Painter 12 if you are running Windows 64-bit and you need to use Painter 11 if you want to use plugins in Painter.

Can anyone confirm? How about the Mac version of Painter 12? Is it possible to run plugins by switching it to 32-bit mode?

This has some bad implications. It could mean that Corel will not add support for 64-bit Photoshop plugins to its other applications (Paint Shop Pro, Photo-Paint) when they become available as 64-bit versions. If we are lucky, they will implement 64-bit plugin support at a later time.

Hi Harold,

Unfortunately, I can confirm that In Painter 12, plugins only work in Windows 32 bit. This information was received from Corel support.

I don't use the Mac platform, but Mac users are confirming that plugins are not usable for them either. There is a big discussion about this at the Painter Factory forum.

Those of us who use plugins with previous versions of Painter are all hoping that Corel will add support in a future patch, but not counting on it.
