Topaz Labs Vivacity--now for Mac

I've just had a chance to use the as-yet unreleased Mac version of Topaz Labs Vivacity, which is a small plug-in suite suite that covers image enhancements such as enlarging, noise reduction, clean up and sharpening.

The funny thing is, a lot of people use it for special effects by overdoing the sharpening! See some of the resulting unique artwork at the link above.

The Windows version has been out for at least a couple of years; the Mac version should be out perhaps this week.

i downloaded and installed the plugin for mac trial 30 days.
but it always (i mean always never fail) to crash my PS CS3 each time i clicked cancel in the vivacity plugin. If i use smaller images, it will hang.

BTW, i'm running MBP C2D with 2GB RAM.

Anyone can help me here?

Thanks a mill!!

Hi afby,

I used Vivacity under pretty much the same conditions (early MacBook 1.8 with 2 gigs RAM and CS3 as well as a Mac Pro tower). Except for mine not being a trial copy. I didn't have any crashing problems at all--I easily made the examples you see on my web page.

I will email my contact at Topaz Labs and see what he thinks.

could it be because i'm using the trial version?
would buying a full version would make it working?

thanks again!

Theoretically, a trial version should should work exactly the same as a licensed version except for lack of ability to save, watermarked results or a time limit on saving.

I wonder if there's anything else about your system which might cause this? In the meantime, try repairing Permissions using Disk Utility as a start.

I'd like to make sure Vivacity works on your system before you commit to a purchase. Of course it should!

Hi,

Eric from Topaz Labs here.

afby, the trial version is no different than the full version (except the time limit) so we want to make sure you can use it before you purchase from plugsandpixels.com . It's a full-featured trial: no watermarks, no save restrictions, or anything like that.

As for the problem... I'm currently unable to replicate it but I'd like to get this figured out. Are you using OSX Leopard or Tiger?

I'll check this thread regularly.

afby, I'm running Leopard 10.5.2 on all my systems, so we differ there.

ok but i think the plugin should work on both Tiger and Leopard, right?
it does not say in the website that it only works on Leopard.

Shouldn't be a problem. Eric is on it, so hopefully they'll have a solution soon.

Has anybody here tried Vivacity yet, and if so, how did it go?

It should work, but it's time to pull out Tiger and do some more extensive testing.

If we find anything (and we will) then I'll let you know on this forum.

OK, we know what the problem is and uploaded the patched software. It should work on your system now. Uninstall and reinstall with the updated installer at http://www.topazlabs.com/src/topazvivacity131.dmg and you should have no further problems.

Thanks again for your interest, let me or Mike know if you have any questions.
