Architectural Drawings plug-in?

Hello,
I'm pretty new at graphics and I'm spending an awful lot of time drawing gears, widgits, and architectural floor plans to use as backgrounds or elements in designs. Like I said, I spend a lot of time making them, and it's frustrating because after all my effort, they look pretty clumsy and primitive. Is there a plug-in or program that will help speed up the process and yeild better, more uniform objects? Please help save me from this tedium. I'm missing a lot of good television. Thanks.
