Andromeda Series 4 Techtures

Post by Naz »

I recently purchased this plugin, it arrives on a disc, it doesn`t appear to boot so i go into the disc and double-click it`s setup.exe file, i enter my allocated registration number and it does an auto-search for photoshop, i use the browse option to point it to my photoshop plug-ins folder and the
installation takes place. The problem arises when i go into photoshop and use the plugin, it keeps requesting the disc to be in the drive in order for the plugin to acquire specific data. Surely this isn`t correct for a less than cheap plugin?, i`m sure this is an issue which can me remedied, although i know of nobody who has purchased this plugin. Naz. :-?

You are right that Techtures doesn't work without its CD in the CD drive. I found it annoying, too.

Maybe it is some kind of copy protection or it simply doesn't work without the texture files from the CD. In the second case Andromeda didn't care to offer a full install option. Techtures is already several years old, so at that time people usually didn't have big hard drives. That might be an explanation.

It is best, if you write about this problem to Andromeda.

I use Techtures without the cd installed. There were files that had to be manually copied from the cd to the hard drive. I think this info was included in the readme file but I am not sure and do not have the cd handy. I used it all the time and do not have to insert the cd.

Andromeda Techtures Problem....

Post by Bodymelt »

When you first install this plugin it tells you more or less what to do, but if you would like to use Series 4 Techtures without having to keep putting the disc in the drive, simply put the disc in and drag the Textures folder over to the folder where the plugin resides, when you next run the plugin it will ask where the texture folder is, you just point it to the place you moved it to and you`ll be sorted. It constantly amazes me how so-called professional plugin developers seldom spend enough time on the installer and you end up with the plugin spilling into the plugin or Plug-Ins folder orthings like this happen where the contents isn`t installed properly. I know this plugin has been out since 1996. If concerned about the folder issue with any plugin, just create a folder in plugins/plug-ins and install into that to avoid spilling. If you have already installed the plugin and suspect it has spilt out then the files to round up are.. tech_cn.dll/tech_en.dll/tech_ml.dll/tech_m2.dll/tech_tn.dll/tech_tp.dll/tech_tw.dll
Create a folder called Techtures or Andromeda Techtures and simply move these files to that folder and you`ll be fine. :)

Tectures dates from the byegone era when a CD full of data
was considered "too big" to copy to your hard drive, so it expects
to use textures directly from the CD. You can copy the bulk data
from the CD to the top level of any disk.
