I am trying the Snowscape plugin with Photoplus 8.0. This usually takes PS plugins OK (the Snowflake one works fine for instance). Whatever I try however the plugins comes up with a message saying that an alpha channel is required. I've tried creating a semi transparent layer mask as per the help file but cant get it to work.

Can anyone help?

Ive a feeling i might be doing something basically wrong but Im new to this?

I don't know Photoplus but if it can work with selections like in Photoshop, try applying the filter on them.

If PhotoPlus doesn't support alpha channels or transparency, you won't be able to use Snowscape with it. Try aplying the plugin to a layer in PhotoPlus, maybe it will work then.
