I'm looking for info on how to make a plugin work with Fireworks Live filter feature ...

All you have to do is to make the plugin support scripting. Then it will also work with as a live filter in Fireworks. See the Photoshop SDK!

Actually the dissolve filter sample code in the Photoshop SDK supports scripting. You can extend it and have to make sure that the scripting parameters are synchronized with your filter settings.
