You don't have to select a white or grey area in ColorWasher. If you select a pure white or grey area, ColorWasher doesn't apply a color correction, because it assumes that the image doesn't have a color cast.

What you have to do is to select an area that you want to become grey or white. So the area can be yellow, blue or whatever in the photo, but you know that it was white or grey in the original scene.

If there is no white or grey object in the scene, it can help to place a grey card. Just place or hold it in front of the main subject and take the photo. As long as the grey card is at least e.g. 16x16 pixel in the photo (which is very very small), there is no problem to measure it in ColorWasher. You only need to do that for one photo if the light conditions don't change.

If there is no grey or white area in a photo, you can still try to color correct it manually in ColorWasher or use one of the Auto buttons, which may still find some areas that come close to white or grey.
