Is there a technique for removing horizontal noise banding

In the private email conversation it turned out that the noise banding was reduced by converting the RAW files with Canon DPP and reduced further by using noise reduction.

But I am not sure if that is the best solution. It could also be that the camera is damaged and should be replaced. Or that a firmware upgrade could help.
