Procedural texture generator

Post by bupaje »

Hi. There is a good free procedural texture generator at http://www.texture-editor.com I first used this a few versions ago and it wouldn't run well on my system. I downloaded the most recent update this week and it has improved a lot and while there are a few small bugs it is now what I would consider a useful program.

For those not familiar with the program it allows you to connect a series of 'generators' like Perlin Noise, Bricks and so on to layers and then combine those layers with a few layer options (the author says he is working on adding more) add, multiply, difference and overlay.

You can then add a handful of modifiers to each layer like Bump, Deform etc

While it is possible to create finished textures I have found it most useful to generate a 'base texture' like a rough cobble stone/brick wall which I then add dirt, color etc to in PSP.

Here is a quick sample of a brick wall made in texture editor. I later used this as a base for another texture.

I just downloaded it and checked out some of the sample sets. It looks very interesting.

Thanks for mentioning this tool. Looks as if it is freeware. I'll probably mention it in the next issue of the Plugin Newslette.
