The PhotoWiz plugins are not a RAW Converter, so you need to import your NEF files at first into your graphics tool before you can run the PhotoWiz plugins. After you have opened the files in your graphics application, you can use them on any image you like. The PhotoWiz plugins work on 8bit as well 16bit images.
Both raw-converter and Colorwasher?

Thanks for your answers. I´ve learned a lot from you.
I always take my pics in Nikon NEF, and I convert them in PS Elements 3. But on my converter there are sliders for exposure, contrast, whitebalance, saturation, shadows and more. How shall I use these sliders if I after convertion want to use Colorwasher? Or perhaps I have no use of CW after convertion?

There are some photos that don't turn out that good with Camera RAW in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. For example if the photos were taken under artificial light, if there are two different light sources or if the color cast is quite strong. In such cases you can use ColorWasher. Have a look at http://thepluginsite.com/products/photo ... rison1.htm for some comparisons.
Concerning the settings you could use the default camera settings for the RAW conversion if you want to use ColorWasher afterwards. Sometimes if the color temperature that was recorded by the camera is too far away from the real value, it helps if you adjust the white balance in Camera RAW. Otherwise there will be too much color information suppressed during the RAW conversion.
