How to bring this effect ....

Can anybody help me tip/advise on how to bring the effect in the picture below:

For the yellow color use some colorizing filter. The chessboard pattern can be done in many different ways. The easiest way is probably to create such a pattern on a seperate layer and blend it with the photo by using e.g. the "Screen" method.
