Detailed Cutout

Post by MalcolmP »

Is there a (preferably free) plugin anywhere that will allow me to cutout fine detail on a photo, such as between hair, or between the leaves on a tree. For Windows.

Thanks Malcolm

Sorry, but I don't know any free plugin that lets you do that with a good quality.

Often the masking tools in Photoshop or other applications are sufficient for most masking tasks. If you want more, have a look at Mask Pro from http://www.ononesoftware.com/

There are some other commercial mask plugin, e.g. Corel KnockOut or Vertus Fluid Mask. I never liked KnockOut, but Fluid Mask (www.vertustech.com) looks interesting.

Yes, as Harald said, Fluid Mask is among the top contenders (Windows version coming). See examples (especially my flower shots!) at http://www.plugsnpixels.com/fluidmask.html . Those who are looking for a pro cutout tool can get a $10 discount through my site.

It works on the same principle as OnOne's Mask Pro, which I don't have examples for at the moment (but you can download an earlier PDF article I did from http://www.canvangelist.com/reviews.html (under Extensis heading). I don't like Corel's KnockOut at all (you have to draw an inside AND outside selection--might as well use the Lasso tool yourself!).
