Hi everyone, I'm proud to announce the Edge & Frame Galaxy Contest '99. The EFG Contest is a showcase for the amazing effects that can be achieved with this exciting new product. Our goal here is to inspire you to use the product and create your own art. As artists, we love to create and this contest is all about unleashing artistic freedom. To participate in this contest, the images or animations you create must have at least one edge or frame effect. This is the only condition specific to the content of the submisions. It does not matter how or with what product the edge or frame effect was achieved. You can use an effect from the Edge & Frame Galaxy product, use Auto FX Photo/Graphic Edges, Extensis PhotoFrame, or any other product. You can even create the edge effect manually. You can also submit images or animations that contain more than one edge effect. The EFG Contest is open to all. You can submit up to 9 entries, 3 in each category. The images should not be larger than 640x480 and in JPG format. The GIF animations should not be larger than 100K. The three categories you can submit your entries to are: - Most Creative Usage (of a edge or frame effect) - Best Composed Image (using a edge or frame effect) - Best GIF Animation (using a edge or frame effect) All items must be submitted to the contest until the end of April 1999. After that date the submited images will be displayed in the EFG Contest Gallery at http://pico.i-us.com. Visitors of the EFG Contest Gallery will then have the chance to vote for the contest entries. The votes will be collected and the winner of every category will be announced in the forum and via email. Prizes: The prizes for the winners of each category are: 1. Prize: Macromedia Fireworks 2 compliments of i/us Corporation 2. Prize: A copy of Edge & Frame Galaxy Volume 2 (coming soon) 3. Prize: Harry's Web Tools plugin set Additionally your name (and photo, if you like) including a short bio will be mentioned in the EFG Contest Gallery and you will receive a (gold, silver or bronze) winners banner for your Web site. Looking forward to see some great submissions. Harald Heim P.S. Here's the contest logo designed by Herve Goussard http://www.yweb.com/herve

From comments I got, I decided to make the rules of this contest more and extend them: 1. It isn't allowed to have the same image in two contest categories. 2. You can submit gif animations up to 200K to the contest now. Please do me a favour when submitting a contest entry: Don't activate the checkbox beside your attached file in the posting form. Otherwise I will have to reedit your message and remove it myself. I don't want that any contest entries are automatically displayed. It just make the loading of the EFG Contest Area much slower. I did this composition in Ulead PhotoImpact 4. I used two photos of roses I took quite a few years ago. I made the one with the stems into a mask and then filled it with the salmon colored roses and then superimposed the first ones over the top and then used the built in frame gallery and created the frame using the magic frames as a base for the frame.

Dolphins, being a natural humble mamal to all human, both intelligent
and friendly, they are what I know them to be..."Natural Friends". The
frame used is from EFG call "folk". The frame is hand textured for a spray
painted wood frame effect with Corel Photo Paint. Three dimensional effect
is achieved by Eye Candy, the dolphins created from Poser and the background
scene by Corel Photo Paint.

This is my first shot at this but I'm pleased with the edge effect.
I used Wobble3.bmp as a mask, applied an orange and black sunburst gradient
behind it, adjusted some Layer Blend modes, flattened it and beyond that
I played with drop shadows, added borders and cutouts on selections of
the "frame". All work was done in Paint Shop Pro 5.
This is a sentimental journey for me. This image is of my father who
was team captain for the Princeton Tigers in 1935. Eventually, it will
be part of a tribute website I'm planning to highlight his football career.

Here's another commemorative award for a friend who won the California
State All-Around Girl Rider Championship for 1949 which, at the time,
was a very prestigious award to win.
Done with only Paint Shop Pro 5, I used the FOLK edge as a mask, added
a gradient fill layer then experimented with blend modes, cutouts and
drop shadows. And last but not least, I added the all important text to
the award.

This started out as a terribly overexposed photo to which I applied
PSP's Erode filter and messed with a bit. Then I added one of Harry's
frames for the first animation cel. Made another cel with a deformed version
of the same frame. Then used Animation Shop's Image Transisitions to complete
the animation. (Well, I did mess with the animation a bit, too, actually.)

Black chrome, silvery chrome, here is a colorful rainbow chrome frame.
From EFG collections of color frames, I have made used of "Rainbow frame
1 and frame 2" to 'construct' a wall clock out of it. Some unusual clock
though :) . Everyday we see colors and here is one that live up to it.
Not the usual thing that a piece of graphic image is created first,
this piece starts with the frame first. Call it a product design or a
product illustration and it sure can tell the time. Programs use are Corel
Draw and Photo Paint, two frames from EFG and Eye Candy. Now what I need
is a colorful wall to hang it on.

70's with a Canon FTB slr camera and a 250mm telephoto lens and if I remember

and put that behind the picture and then applied an oval mask to the piture
then used a cutout effect on the text and then filled the text with color.

This image was done in PSP 5 and consists of repeating edge masks with
two different sunsets alternated. The sunset photos were taken in Alaska
many years ago, one was taken of Cook Inlet near Anchorage and the other
one was taken in Valdez. The border was created from a texture that I
made and then another edge effect was applied and then the whole thing

I think adding additional texture to this photograph, which already
has plenty of texture of its own, is a mistake. The frame should enhance
the image, not detract--as in the "Butterfly," entry, i.e. Your doorflower
really works, though, contrasting the delicate image with the roughness
of the frame.

Attached are 2 files using frames created using Xara3D and decorative
fonts, converted into objects in Photopaint and merged with digital photographs
imported as objects.
Eloise is my grandaughter, the picture of Eloise & Pooh was created
originally by merging 2 digital photos, the Pooh bear is actually only
6 inches tall.
I Hope you like this idea but I am not sure what category they would
go in.

the way, has a built in image edge wizard.

yes I created the frame. I made it originaly for a "$2 off" coupon at

I just would like to say real quick, that there is A LOT of talent amongst
all of the entrants here! Well, A bit about my entries: I'm entering "Industrial
Bug" in the best composed category. I took that photo while visiting Reno
one time- it's on the roof of a fire station! I am entering "Luminous"
in the most creative category. (By the way, that's a pic of me- though
more reminicent of the girl "Violet" in Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,
after eating that gum!)

This is REALLY a nice entry. As a conventional artist trying to
learn the digital methods, I can recognize fine composition when I
see it. This is beautifully done--intricate yet balanced and unified.
You get a lot of depth here, and a lot of detail, yet the piece hangs
together as a unified whole. Besides that, it's beautiful to look
at. I hope you get some recognition in this contest.

as a video frame taken about a year ago. OGFramed is of someone rather
special. I used Xara2 for the animation and PhotoShop to mess up perfectly

on the road to Hana (rdhana.jpg). A sunset sail off of Waikiki (ssWaik1.jpg)
and The sky over the North Shore just before a storm. I was trying for
a lava cave effect. I used varioous edges from E&F and BladePro.

really was of the pink waterlily that grows in my garden or whether
it was a photo from my copy of MasterClips. I think I might have filed
the photo in the wrong place! :^p

The edge and framing effects for this image are in perfect proportion
to the image itself which is a design using the ancient ratio called the
Golden Mean or Perfect Rectangle. The outer frame is BladePro'd and the
inner frame area is an applied pool shadow filter.
The apparent relections are do to the color gradient reversals occurring
along with a plasma flare effect applied.
