PSP X2, wondering how to achieve this look

Postby juicymt » Sun Dec 07, 2008 7:11 pm

Hi, I have a picture that someone else did and I am curious as to how to achieve that look..not the color or anything like that, but I need to know how to do the inside square inside of the picture. I can't get anyone to give me any insight on it, hoping someone here can. Thanks :) ... brooke.jpg

Hi, I'm new here on this forum.
I've also pspx2 and if you took your selection tool 'rectangle' (S on your keyboard) draw a selection on the middle square and then: Edit-copie..... Edit-past as a new image.......done..........
Now you can save your image.
I hope you can read my translation.

How to achieve this look ...

IF you have psp x2, then there is a picture frame that is transparent that will give you a very similar look. Hope this helps.

I'd try the following (in any modern photoshop) for a similar effect:

1. Create a new layer, on top of everything you want the effect to apply to. Make the opacity 60% (which can be modified later) and the combining mode "Multiply"

2. Use the marquis tool to draw a rectangle where you'd like the frame effect.

3. Save this selection. Call it "Box".

4. Under the SELECT > MODIFY > BORDER, put a border on the selection. For this example, use 75 pixels. (I think Photoshop won't let you have a larger border at a single shot)

5. Repeat step 4. (We want a larger border.)

6. Under SELECT > MODIFY > FEATHER, give the selection a 50 pixel feather.

7. Under EDIT > FILL, fill with BLACK

8. Under SELECT > LOAD SELECTION, load the selection we made originally, "Box".

9. Invert the selection (SELECT > INVERT SELECTION)

10. Clear the selction (EDIT > CLEAR). This gives the frame a hard outer edge.

11. Deselect.

You can change the opacity of this layer to get a stronger or weaker effect, and change the sizes of the border and feather to get a longer or narrower framing, not to mention that the sizes are in pixels need to be adjusted to the size of the picture you're doing this to.

i used psp x2 to create the effect you are looking for.
open up your graphic in psp and choose the selection tool set at rectangle, (feather 0) go up to selections and click on float
next go to effects--3d effects--cut out with these settings vertical and horizontal set at 0
opacity at 100 and blur i had at 69 but you can play with that one

There is photoshop plugin from AFH beveler called beveler which can be usedto get this effect. It is 8Bf filter. There is also a 8BF filter called Prism from Photoswazzle which can also give similar effect.
